Chris Curry University of Papua New Guinea Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine Award

1. Purpose and Scope 

This policy governs the awarding of the Chris Curry University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine (MMed(EM)) Award, which is awarded to the highest scoring MMed(EM) candidate each year.

 

2. Background 

The award is named in honour of Dr Chris Curry in acknowledgement of his instrumental efforts in establishing the speciality in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Dr Chris Curry spent prolonged periods in Port Moresby negotiating with government and UPNG to develop the MMed(EM) program. He provided the inspiration and mentorship for the early pioneers of emergency medicine in PNG.

 

3. Chris Curry PNG Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine Award

3.1 Nature of Award

The Chris Curry UPNG MMed(EM) Award consists of a medal and educational materials up to the value of AUD $500.

3.2 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who successfully complete the MMed(EM) program at the UPNG are eligible to receive the award. 3.3 Selection Criteria The award shall be presented to an eligible candidate(s) who obtained the highest score in the UPNG MMed(EM). The award may be given jointly or severally if two or more such candidates are judged equally proficient. The award shall be presented to the highest scoring eligible candidate(s) according to the following ranked criteria:

  1. The candidate who achieved the highest score in the UPNG MMed(EM) final exams.
  2. If two or more candidates tie using criterion 1, then the candidate who achieved the highest score in the research project will receive the award.
  3. If two or more candidates tie using criterion 2, then all tied candidates are presented with the award. 3.4 Presentation of Award The award shall be presented annually to the award winner/s at the PNG Medical Symposium.

3.3 Selection Criteria

The award shall be presented to an eligible candidate(s) who obtained the highest score in the UPNG MMed(EM). The award may be given jointly or severally if two or more such candidates are judged equally proficient. The award shall be presented to the highest scoring eligible candidate(s) according to the following ranked criteria:

  1. The candidate who achieved the highest score in the UPNG MMed(EM) final exams.
  2. If two or more candidates tie using criterion 1, then the candidate who achieved the highest score in the research project will receive the award.
  3. If two or more candidates tie using criterion 2, then all tied candidates are presented with the award.

3.4 Presentation of Award 

The award shall be presented annually to the award winner/s at the PNG Medical Symposium.
