1. Purpose and background

This policy governs the awarding of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) John Gilroy Potts Award, which is made in respect of a published research paper judged to be most significant in the field of emergency medicine research.

Dr John Gilroy Potts was a Foundation Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) who, following an early career in general practice and with the Department of Health and Immigration in overseas postings, spent many of his professional years developing and enhancing the practice of emergency medicine in the Australian Capital Territory and contributing to the development of emergency medicine as a specialty.

The John Gilroy Potts Award is made in the pursuit of truth, knowledge, and wisdom by physicians in emergency medicine, virtues embodied by John Potts in his approach to patients and their care.
